Just over 4 months ago, I left my life behind in Bogotá to start filming for Career Break Secrets. Since then, I’ve looped the world and have one leg left before I return home (I am currently in the Torres Del Paine Park in southern Chile). The idea I had in mind, for our early communication activity, was that I was not only going to be filming but getting the blog up and going because in the blogging world, you have to just get out there to blog, blog, blog. Well, that is great in theory. The reality is that after months of planning, I am now living in reality. And, despite my very best intentions, this is my second blog post in 4 months.
The good news is that we really are very close to launching our website formally. And, even if all the content isn’t up yet, you can see a bit more of where we’re going. First, to catch you all up, here’s a summary of what I’ve been doing since August.
- 11 countries (US, UK, Ireland, The Netherlands, Spain, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Australia, New Zealand, Chile)
- 5 continents (North America, Europe, Africa, Australia, South America)
- Thousands of air miles flown…I guess I should have been counting along the way
- Over 60 hours of footage filmed
- 12 career break stories filmed (US, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Chile) with more scheduled elsewhere in the world
- Career Break Secrets video travel guides completed for Spain, South Africa, New Zealand with Patagonia (both Chilean and Argentinean sides) underway
- Video podcast segments filmed, aka Career Break Coffee Breaks
- 1 robbery in South Africa – such a stereotypical story in some ways, but more to come on that little incident soon
- Lots of dollars spent on excessive baggage fees (all the equipment weighs a lot)
- Facebook and Twitter pages up ( facebook.com/careerbreaksecrets twitter: careerbrksecret )
- And, ahem, 2 blog posts posted – OK, so clearly a little work to do here
Going forward I am committing to you to keep the blog up and going to give a better behind the scenes look at how we are putting together our site and our video content. We going to bring a look and view to career breaks that you haven’t seen before so please stay tuned. It’s time for me to bundle up and make my last packing adjustments so I can hit the Torres Del Paine park tomorrow. More to come soon.
