I am working on a new travel planning series to help people better plan their career break or round the world (RTW) trip. Given the wealth of information and tools that are available, there is no way I can get around to everything that´s out there. I know what I use, but what do I know? Maybe there are better things out there.
So, if you are a blogger, travel writer, e-book publisher, travel site offering tips, tricks, articles, products and services to help people in their travel planning, I want to hear from you. I personally went through this process when I took my career break. And, using my experience and story as a starting point, I am developing this series to take into account all the new and tried-and-true stuff that´s out there to summarize it into an actionable plan for my readers. I realize that mine is a single experience and there are many other ways to plan a career break and round the world trip.
Without further ado, here are the details.
Content Areas
These are the key questions that I´ll be seeking to answer in each area of the series
- Budgeting: Do I have enough funds or not to take a career break?
- Your Company´s Sabbatical Policy: Is there a chance my company might support me?
- Financial tools: What financial tools to I need to get now?
- Health considerations: What medical details do I need to take care of now?
- Dealing with your physical possessions: What I am going to do with my stuff?
Specific Content Needed
- Travel websites of current travelers on the road
- Specific articles that touch on the content areas listed above
- Free and at-a-cost content tools are both welcome. If your product has a cost, I will need a copy to evaluate it properly
Sources I Want to Hear From
- Travel bloggers, writers and sites that offer relevant advice, products and services
- People who have taken or are currently on a career break or RTW trip
- Career break experts and gurus
- RTW experts and gurus
- Other companies that offer relevant travel products and services
- Anyone else who has something relevant to say
- I don´t care where in the world you´re from, as long as what you have is good
Criteria for Inclusion
- Content is relevant and current
- Content can be broadly applicable or have a specific niche of travelers in mind
- Articles are well written
- If there is a charge for your product or service, all costs are clear and transparent
I promise to include as many of you with the relevant content that respond as possible. If I suspect you´re a spammer, you´re out immediately.
The series is scheduled to be published in June. I will give full credit to your work including links back to your site both in the articles I write for the series and at the end in the directory of resources I will be producing.
How and When to Contact Me
Send links to your sites and information to info @ careerbreaksecrets .com (remove the spaces). Please don´t assume I know about you. Please reach out and if you´ve got great content, let´s get it out to more people. Thank you for considering my request and for being a part of the series.
Please send me your info by Sunday, May 9, 2010. All the best.
Jeff

Sounds like an interesting project. Our site has lots of travel budget data that can help future and current travelers. I’m looking forward to reading the travel guides when you publish them!

Hi Jeff, I know this is a bit late but I just saw your message at TBEX forum. If you’re still keen on looking for a resource person re: career break I can offer some tips as i did my career break in 2005. I wrote about that in my first travel blog — http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/gypsygal/.
I went on a five year “blogging hiatus” and is now blogging on http://www.gypsygalstales.com where I’m writing tips and stories for solo female travelers.
