In this week’s ¨Who’s Out There Now¨ feature, we bring to you the traveling vagabond, Rob, who runs the site StopHavingaBoringLife.com. He’s got a huge following online with over 8200 folks on his Facebook fanpage and a whopping 50,000 Twitter followers. Maybe it’s the places he goes. Maybe it’s his videos. Or, maybe there are a ton of people that want to stop having a boring life…and are living vicariously through his.

1. So, where in the world are you answering these questions?

I’m in the lovely Granada, Nicaragua.

2. You  spent a lot of time going through the former Soviet states. What’s the appeal and what are some unique things about traveling through that part of the world compared to other spots?

I’ve always been interested in Eastern Europe for some reason and always attracted to the women from this region. The reason I’m visiting them is that I wish to see the entire world and have already done most of Western Europe. I’m not complaining and it’s one of my favorite parts of the world to date.

6. How does the name of your site reflect your travel style? It’s called “Stop Having a Boring Life” and I believe it does. I’m up for most anything most of the time if it is in line with my morals and goals. The domain came about as I was bored with my life and turns out to be great for SEO, search boring life, lots of people do…7. What are some of the secrets to travel that you’ve discovered that you think more people who aren’t traveling should know?Much like you can’t plan your life, you can’t plan your trip if you want to have the best trip of your life. Pick a general idea and just go, the time will never be right. Also if you have a rigid plan, you’ll probably come back the same person as when you left. If you are flexible, the people  will help guide your direction and growth. Like attracts like, you’ll meet people who will change your life, if you let it happen and aren’t on too strict a schedule.8. What was your first ¨I’m not in Kansas anymore¨ moment? When I hit Bangkok, remember being fascinated by the tuk tuk’s and filming everything as though I was in wonder land.

9. What’s been your most ¨local¨ experience so far?Living in a cashew tree fort off the coast of Pangani for 5 weeks with the staff who were building a resort, I had a blast. The owner had me come down for 2 days to help with a blog as it was a good cause and I ended up staying for 5 weeks just hanging with the staff and the local people they knew. It was a game changer and some of my most treasured memories ever. Driving 10+km on a motocross bike along walking paths with 2 other guys and one holding a flashlight to a bar that was out in the middle of “somewhere” with a generator. That or helping the village find a missing hunter and the list goes on..10. What has been your most embarrassing moment?Receiving a compound fracture to my frontal lobe in an inane bicycle accident when I used to race mountain bikes and was even sponsored by a local shop.11. What’s your secret for getting the most out of your journey?Following your gut and being incredibly open minded.

  1. Awesome Q&A with my favourite travel blogger — Rob tells it like it is, with his own unique style and wit. That video was amazingly nerve-wracking … think you don’t need travel insurance? Think again!

Rob makes a good point – travel does make life more interesting. Certainly one of the reasons I started traveling almost full time was to stop being bored. Although, there is a LOT more to it than that for me. Still, I can relate.
